The Motto

Better Artists, Better Community, Building a Better Field.

Open's motto isn't about comparison or competition—it's about small improvements and how they matter. Better is Better.

Better is Better is not about being better than anyone else, but better than you were yesterday.

It's not about perfection: Better is Better is about seeing where you are, where the work is, and where the field is and trying to do a little bit better every day.

Mission

As the intimacy field grows and changes, Open Intimacy Creatives provides artistic, collaborative, and professional support to the artists who do this work. The mission is designed to evolve with the field in continual pursuit of doing a little bit better every day.

Better Artists

Intimacy professionals need to bring in consent-based tools, but that is not our only purpose. We are not the sex-police or the harassment hall monitors. We are artists. Open's training is grounded in the foundations of consent, boundaries, and power, but the focus is on crafting physical storytelling. Storytelling with every ounce of opportunity wrung out, tried on, evaluated, and played to the fullest.

Better Community

Intimacy professionals are isolated from one another: we divide ourselves by organizational alignment, we meet only in passing through a workshop, and at the end of the day, we often work as departments of one. That isolation creates undue pressure to be perfect, a crisis of confidence in our own abilities, and maybe worst of all- isolation keeps you from sharing your innovations and skills with your own community. The very nature of our work requires us to thrive in collaboration with actors, directors, choreographers, designers, and other production personnel- let’s collaborate with each other too.

Building a Better Field

Prepared with practical, nuanced storytelling skills and surrounded by a community of consent-based intimacy professionals, we can do more impactful work as artists and as advocates for change in our industries and within our own developing field. Develop as an artist, bring your community with you, and open the gates.

About Open

Open Intimacy Creatives was founded in 2024 by Chelsea Pace

I have been choreographing and coordinating intimacy for over 15 years and teaching people how to do it themselves for almost as long.

In 2017, I co-founded Theatrical Intimacy Education (TIE) with the mission of bringing consent-based practices to everyone who needed them- TIE's mission is to make the people already in the room (actors, directors, teachers, choreographers) better at being in the room. TIE trains thousands of artists a year in tools and best practices to help them establish boundaries and support consent-based, trauma-informed spaces.

Open is about building on that work.

My professional (and personal) motto, Better is Better, celebrates small improvements in the field and in the spaces where intimacy professionals do their work. Better today than we were yesterday. Open is an invitation to intimacy professionals from all backgrounds to find ways to grow in community together.

Open is a training space welcoming of intimacy professionals from all backgrounds into an advanced, inclusive learning environment.

As acceptance for consent-based work has grown, my personal mission has extended beyond teaching the basics—I want to train storytellers and support communities of intimacy professionals as they develop not only as practitioners but also as artists.

If you need an efficient and practical workshop on a particular skill, Open has you covered. When you are looking for collaborative, community magic, Open offers cohort-style learning and community spaces. If you are craving customized coaching and support, Open has your back.

Open provides the training, resources, and space for you to develop networks and relationships with experienced professionals and your peers so you never have to go it alone.

Better is better.

Welcome to Open.
