Bend without Breaking: Choreography & Staging

 June 15, 2025

9am-12pm Pacific
12pm-3pm Eastern

What do you do when the director doesn’t want your input?

What about if the actors want to “just go for it?”

What do you do when it feels like production wanted a babysitter, rather than a collaborator?

All of the choreography knowledge and training in the world can’t prepare you for the realities of choreographing in production.

In this workshop, participants will take their choreography skills and techniques and learn how to effectively adapt and apply them without stepping on the toes of their collaborators. This workshop will take a look at common choreography and staging strategies for intimacy in theatre and film, and offer practical, flexible approaches for supporting (and improving!) choreography.

About Bend without Breaking

Things on set and in rehearsal often don’t go exactly to plan. With all of your experience and training, it can still be frustrating and overwhelming when your carefully curated toolkit and process get thrown out the window by the realities of production. In this workshop series, participants will revisit their tools' core ideas and theories and learn strategies for doing the right thing, even when everything is going wrong.

What you'll get:

  • Three hours of live instruction
  • A recording of the session to review or watch later
  • One year of access to the Open Intimacy Community Forum

Participants are expected to have a working knowledge of consent and boundaries tools before attending the workshop.

Participants must be 18 years of age or older.
