Spend six weeks with a small cohort of intimacy coordinators prepping a real script to work with a real director and real actors.

What if you could go through the process of being the intimacy coordinator on a project without the pressure? The experience without the exposure? The gig, but with a lot of guidance?

The gap between a how-to explainer workshop and actually doing the job can feel huge. To help bridge that gap and build confidence, many emerging intimacy professionals seek shadowing or assisting experiences, but those can be hard to come by, inaccessible, and logistically complicated- especially in film.

I developed this program to give more intimacy coordinators the benefits of shadowing or assisting (see the process modeled, ask lots of questions, talk with actors and directors). But instead of just watching me do it, you get to talk concept with a director, you coordinate with the other departments, you will talk with actors and prepare the riders, you help choreograph a scene, and you give the notes to (and get notes from) the director.

In these six weeks (two back-to-back 90-minute sessions per week with one 30-minute break), you will work closely with me and a small cohort of peers to prepare and execute an intimacy coordination project based on a studio film production model. We will work with a director and actors to give you the real experience of role-playing the critical conversations and interactions without the pressure of a real production on your shoulders.

What you'll get:

  • 18 hours of instruction, led by Chelsea Pace (with special guests)
  • Live, virtual sessions with video playback so you can catch up, re-watch, and stay on track
  • Weekly assignments to keep the learning going between sessions
  • Opportunities to practice being the IC in a supportive, constructive environment with other industry professionals
  • Personalized feedback and advice
  • Year-long access to a private community message board
  • Supplemental materials to support your intimacy work

Note: This program is for intimacy coordinators (film/TV) looking to step up their skills and who are ready to be mentored in a simulated production environment. This is not a beginner workshop. Participants are required to have training/experience in consent, boundaries, power dynamics, and deloaded/ desexualized language.

This program is compatible with training from Theatrical Intimacy Education (Best Practices) or the work in Staging Sex: Best Practices, Tools, and Techniques, but training/experience with other organizations is welcome.

This program will not address live performance. For the equivalent training experience for intimacy choreography for live performance,  check out the Intimacy Choreographer Cohort Program.

Participants must be 18 years of age or older.

What People Are Saying:

The program's design providing various opportunities to experience professional tasks and hurdles through simulation was invaluble! The small group provided ample opportunity for one-on-one and collaborative learning in a supportive environment. From readying riders to navigating challenging productions I feel like this was the "shadow" experience that could take me to the next step of my career. Both participating in, as well as watching my cohort navigate the the interviews with directors and actors. Just being in a space with peers to ask questions and share information while being guided and professionally nurtured was such a real privilege.

E R

OIC has been instrumental in building my confidence as an Intimacy Coordinator. Without Chelsea and the welcoming group of participants she has cultivated at OIC, I would have remained uncertain and hesitant to get on-set in this role. The practical feedback and encouragement I received from this experience helped me to recognize my qualification to step on-set and "make better happen." Since the end of the 6-Week IC Cohort, I have successfully booked five short film projects.
