Spend six weeks with a small cohort of intimacy choreographers prepping a real play to work with a real director and real actors.

What if you could go through the process of being the intimacy choreographer on a project without the pressure? The experience without the exposure? The gig, but with a lot of guidance?

The gap between a how-to explainer workshop and actually doing the job can feel huge. To help bridge that gap and build confidence, many emerging intimacy professionals seek shadowing or assisting experiences, but those can be hard to come by, inaccessible, and logistically complicated.

This six-week program will guide a small cohort of intimate choreographers in preparing a script and working with a real director and real actors as the intimacy choreographer on a mock production.

I developed this program to give more intimacy choreographers the benefits of shadowing or assisting (see the process modeled, ask lots of questions, talk with actors and directors). But instead of just watching me do it, you get to talk concept with a director, you will talk story and boundaries with actors, you lead a first day of rehearsal, you choreograph a scene, and you give the notes.

In these six weeks (Two back-to-back 90-minute sessions per week) you will work closely with me and a small cohort of peers to prepare and execute an intimacy choreography project based on a professional theatre model. We will work with a director and actors to give you the real experience to roleplay the critical conversations and interactions, without the pressure of a real production on your shoulders.

Are you ready to test and expand your training and experience?
Have you done a lot of intimacy workshops but wondered how to put those skills into practice?
Do you stress about the “it depends” answers you get when you ask for advice or feedback on a situation?
Do you want to practice doing a show without actually having the pressure of doing a show?

Each week, we will tackle a step in the intimacy choreography process with lots of opportunities for (virtual) hands-on, practical learning.

What you get:

  • 18 hours of instruction, led by Chelsea Pace (with special guests)
  • Live, virtual sessions with video playback so you can catch up, re-watch, and stay on track
  • Weekly assignments to keep the learning going between sessions
  • Opportunities to practice being the IC in a supportive, constructive environment with other industry professionals
  • Personalized feedback and advice
  • Year-long access to a private community message board
  • Supplemental materials to support your intimacy work

This program is for intimacy choreographers (live performance) looking to step up their skills and who are ready to be mentored in a simulated production environment. This is not a beginner workshop. Participants are required to have training/experience in consent, boundaries, power dynamics, and deloaded/desexualized language.

This program is most compatible with the work in Staging Sex: Best Practices, Tools, and Techniques, but training/experience with other organizations is welcome.

This program will not address film production. For the equivalent training experience for intimacy coordination for film, check out the Intimacy Coordination Cohort Program.

Participants must be 18 years of age or older.
